Goliath Grouper
Goliath grouper are some of SW Floridaâs largest inhabitants. They can grow to well over 7 ft long and weigh in excess of 350lb. Harvest has been banned on goliaths since 1990. This has let them get to population levels where their harvest has been brought up by sportsmen and scientists. A slow growing species, they mature at 4-6 years of age before joining the spawning aggregations. They remain protected for now so that they can be caught again someday. Mortality in shallow waters from recreational angling seems to be low.

Not recommended for young children- Feel free to bring them with us though! Goliath Grouper that we hook into can be in excess of 350 pounds at times. This is a real battle and usually requires some assistance from another angler or the captain. Clients often think they've hooked the bottom when in fact the fight is on! It quickly turns to a who's-got-who situation!
